Bedload Sampler Top-Mounted Flap Efficiency Design

A top-mounted flap system was developed to reduce bed scooping in bedload samplers. The project yielded a functional pulley design and a partially successful push-pull reel. Further refinement is needed for full control in varied river conditions.

Eng. Yousef Al-Ramzi

Oceanside OMG Pump Pacific Hydro Engineering

Pacific Hydro Engineering designed a pump station to divert wastewater to the San Luis Rey Plant. Featuring a four-pump system, HDPE piping, and flood-compliant site design, the $5.3M project ensures energy efficiency, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Eng. Hussain Al-Amir

San Elijo Stormwater Capture & Reuse

The Development of a stormwater reuse system to combat water scarcity. It includes collection, treatment, and delivery infrastructure, supporting flood control and groundwater recharge while promoting safe, sustainable water use aligned with regional goals.

Eng. Hamad Al-Azmi

Hydraulic Water Distribution Models for Intermittent Systems

Intermittent water systems, common in developing regions, face challenges with quality, pressure, and supply. Using WaterGEMS software, a simplified model was developed from a real system to support engineers working with limited data and resources.

Eng. Hussain Burammanah

Pathogen Quantification Across Drinking Water Treatment Works: E. Coli with GFP

Quantifying viable E. coli using GFP is explored through plate counts, ddPCR (±PMA), and flow cytometry (±PI). The study compares traditional and molecular methods to distinguish live from dead cells, aiming to improve pathogen tracking in water treatment.

The Potential of Mycelium-Tamarisk Composites in Sustainable Construction for Temporary Structures

Mycelium-infused Tamarisk wood offers a sustainable alternative to conventional construction materials. By enhancing wood’s mechanical properties and addressing environmental concerns, it presents a promising solution for temporary building structures.

Eng. Adel Al-Azemi

Petroleum Contaminated Remediation

A petroleum-contaminated site in Broomfield, CO is being remediated using bioremediation, phytoremediation, and bioventing to meet a 500 ppm TPH target. The $13,000 plan ensures environmental compliance and future recreational use near the new QBP facility.

Eng. Abdulrazzaq Al-Saie

Design Services for San Elijo WWTP Aeration Basins Conversion

ABC Engineering designed an aeration basin conversion at San Elijo WWTP to improve effluent quality via denitrification. Using the MLE process, the project meets NPDES nitrate limits, enhances efficiency, and supports regional sustainability for $1.17M.

Assessing the Effects of Different Urbanization levels on Surface Water Quality and Biodiversity

Urbanization alters natural rivers through channel modification and pollution, impacting water quality and biodiversity. By analyzing pollutants and using eDNA to identify microbial taxa, the project highlights trends and potential drivers of urban river degradation.

Evaluating The Impact of Different Rooftop Designs with Solar Panels on Stormwater Quality

Green roofs paired with solar panels improve vegetation life and water quality. A campus experiment showed reduced temperature and TDS levels, with deeper substrates enhancing results. Solar panels provided shade and helped lower conductivity and pollutant runoff.

Wemlinger Water Purification Facility - Plant Upgrade

To combat rising TOC and taste/odor issues at Wemlinger WPF, a DAF and PAC system was selected for its efficiency and compatibility. The $173M solution improves filtration, extends filter life, and offers a sustainable, adaptable response to climate-driven water changes.
